After decades working in HR, professional development and educational development, I finally started following my creative dreams. My first novel, a gritty romantic thriller, was published by Hachette Australia in 2008, followed by five more with Hachette over the next eight years. In December 2016, I independently published my first novella, followed by an historical novel in July 2019. I’m currently working on my second historical novel, and planning to publish it later this year (2020). My pen name is Bronwyn Parry and you can read about my books and the writing life on my author website.
My other creative and historical interests are in historic textiles and costumes and the social history they reflect. I wrote my Honours Thesis on the topic of 18th century British Worsted Textiles. I’ve also acquired varying degrees of skills in a range of textile crafts over the years, including spinning, weaving, sewing and dyeing.
My interest in historic clothing has evolved and I’ve become increasingly fascinated by historic sewing and construction techniques, and have been using these techniques to create historically accurate costumes from the 1780s to the 1950s. I’ve also been a volunteer at the local Folk Museum since June 2018, leading a team documenting the clothing collection, and it’s been a privilege and inspiring to study and document a wide range of clothing dating from the early 1800s through to the mid-20th century. You can read about my historical costume projects at my new website, Stitching History.
